Located in the heart of Brooklyn, just minutes from the city, our purpose-built centre has been thoughtfully designed to support children at every stage of their learning journey. We have a dedicated under twos room, providing a calm and nurturing space for our youngest tamariki, alongside a large and vibrant over twos environment where children can explore, create, and engage in a wide range of experiences.
Just like the wind turbine turns breeze into power, our community supports tamariki to transform their curiosity into knowledge so they can make a positive impact in society.
The blades of the wind turbine represent our core values as a teaching team, intricately intertwined to support tamariki learning about the world around them. Through manaakitanga, we create an environment where tamariki learn together, fostering compassion and support for each other. Through kaitiakitanga, we foster an appreciation of the living world and empower a sense of guardianship for the world around them. We also support tamariki to develop independence, empowering them to become masters of their own learning. At the heart of this is language, culture and identity, with our teaching practices centred on supporting tamariki to be curious and accepting of others, ensuring all forms of identity and abilities are celebrated.
We believe that, just like the mountain provides the foundation for the wind turbine, aroha provides the foundation for tamariki to learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment.
Learning at Busy Bees Brooklyn is creative, expressive, and full of opportunity. Children engage in a wide range of experiences including role play, music and movement, messy play, and hands-on exploration. Within our multicultural environment, these experiences are enriched by the diverse perspectives, languages, and traditions shared by our whānau and kaiako.
What truly sets our centre apart is the strong sense of belonging that is felt throughout. Children are supported by kaiako who genuinely care, take the time to know each child, and create an environment where tamariki feel confident to express themselves and celebrate who they are.
Kākano Room (babies up to 2 years)
Kākano means seed in Māori and just as a seed needs to be nurtured and cared for to grow and reach it’s full potential, so do our babies! Our Kākano Room is based on building loving and trusting bonds between pēpi. Kaiako work closely with whānau to understand children’s cues and develop a routine that supports tamariki natural rhythms. Kaiako utilise sensory play, outdoor exploration, music and movement to create a fun, interactive atmosphere whilst maintaining a focus on the love, care and affection that pēpi need to thrive. Our approach is guided by the uniqueness of each child. We recognise that every child is different, and we strive to meet their individual needs by creating a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment.
Kōhuri Room (2 -5 years)
Kōhuri means sapling in Māori, and just like saplings, our older children are growing strong and independent – gaining confidence and competence as they grow. Our preschool programme provides opportunities throughout the day for children to be involved in contributing to the curriculum, helping to make decisions about what is set up, and sharing their ideas to slowly prepare our little ones for their next learning adventure. The room is full of challenges for our children to grow and spread their wings. Tamariki are encouraged to care for others, the environment and their own property and are supported to understand their growing sense of responsibility for themselves and the world around them. A daily kapa haka group introduces children to waiata while supporting their motor skills development.
Our inhouse cook provides freshly made meals for children each day. We believe that through nourishing food, children are fuelled to thrive physically and mentally, whilst cherishing the connection that takes place during shared meal times.
Our dedicated centre team is currently striving towards the Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award from the Heart Foundation for the amazing things we do here to promote healthy food and physical activity.
Our centre promotes an inclusive environment where tamariki develop knowledge and understanding of New Zealand’s dual heritage, culture, language and identity as well as recognising the diverse cultures of our community. We communicate, engage and work in partnership with parents and whānau regarding all aspects of children’s learning, interests, goals and holistic development.
Curriculum
Our local curriculum incorporates learning dispositions, the principles and goals of our ECE curriculum Te Whāriki, and competencies derived from Tataiako. Our innovative learning environments are abundantly resourced with stimulating educational resources which complements the delivery of our local curriculum and educational programme. Our teachers are passionate about encouraging children's creativity, supporting their emerging social interactions, and celebrating their individual successes.
Passionate Teachers
We have a talented group of kaiako who have been selected based on their experience and passion within the Early Learning field, their professional knowledge of teaching and nurturing tamariki as well as their philosophy of education and knowledge of child development. Kaiako build meaningful, respectful relationships with tamariki and their whānau and work in partnership regarding all aspects of tamariki learning, interests, goals and holistic development.
